What is traceable wool?

What is traceable wool?

Traceable Wool

Merino wool is a favourite material for menswear clothing due to its natural temperature and moisture controlling abilities. However, the importance of knowing where your wool comes from is imperative to ensure Sheep are being treated as ethically as possible. This is where traceable Merino wool comes in. We at Neem are able to trace the wool used in our products right back to the farm the sheep come from, ensuring they use Non-Mulesing and use the most natural, sustainable methods of production.

What is Mulesing?

Mulesing has been a routine procedure for sheep, especially by farmers in Australia where most of the commercial wool comes from. It is a method used in preventing their sheep from being killed by infections by mutilating the skin around their breech making it smooth so it won’t collect moisture and attract bacteria in folds. The pain for the animals can last for 48 hours and many die from shock, stress and long term pain. However, Mulesing can be avoided. Today, there are other methods of farming to keep sheep safe from these insects that are sustainable.
