How to Care for Your ZQ Merino Wool

How to Care for Your ZQ Merino Wool

At Neem London, we're proud to craft garments that blend luxury with sustainability. Our ZQ Merino feels remarkably different from traditional wool because we've carefully considered every step of the process—from the farm to your wardrobe.

Innovative Natural Treatment

Unlike conventional wool treatments that rely on harsh chemicals like chlorine, we've chosen a more natural approach to make our ZQ Merino machine washable. Our innovative process works in harmony with the wool's natural properties, ensuring your garments maintain their exceptional quality whilst being kind to the environment.

Every fibre we use can be traced back to New Zealand farms practising non-mulesing techniques, guaranteeing both ethical treatment of sheep and superior wool quality. But what is Mulesing? It is a procedure where skin is removed from around a sheep's tail to prevent fly infestations. It can be painful for the sheep. So, non-mulesing means the sheep are cared for more humanely, without this practice.

The Science of Sophisticated Fibres

Merino wool is nature's own technical fabric, featuring three remarkable layers: the protective epidermis, the strength-giving cortex, and the insulating medulla. This complex structure explains why Merino naturally regulates temperature and resists odours—it's not just marketing speak, it's pure science in action. Essential Care Guide:

To maintain your garment's exceptional quality:

  1. Mindful Washing Your Merino is naturally self-cleaning thanks to its unique fibre structure. You can wear it multiple times before washing- we challenge you to wear it up to 7 times before washing. In between wears, simply hang the garment in your bathroom as the steam naturally refreshes the fibres. When you do wash, use cool water (30°C or below) and a gentle wool detergent (if possible) such as this here.
  2. Proper Drying Technique The key to maintaining your garment's shape lies in the drying process. Avoid hanging wet merino as this can distort its shape. Merino wool dries quickly—air-dry on a line or for best results lay flat! Keep it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to protect the fibres. Also, where possible avoid tumble dryers as this prevents shrinkage.
  3. Smart Storage A quick tip that makes a big difference when storing your pieces: fold, don't hang in your wardrobe as wool can stretch over time when hung. Also creating small herbal sachets of dried lavender or eucalyptus such as this Clothes Doctor one, is one of the best natural moth deterrents around and smell lovely in your wardrobe.

Sustainability at Heart

Our commitment to sustainable fashion goes beyond just materials. By choosing a more natural treatment process for our ZQ Merino, we're proving that luxury, practicality, and environmental consciousness can coexist. Each garment represents countless hours of research and development to achieve machine-washability without compromising our environmental values.

The Bigger Picture

Our traceable supply chain, from non-mulesed sheep to natural processing methods, ensures that every piece not only performs brilliantly but also respects our environment.

By following these care instructions, you'll ensure your garment maintains its exceptional quality for years to come, embodying the essence of slow fashion and conscious consumption, and we thank you for this!
