When we introduced our first smart casual suit for men in late 2025, we weren't quite sure what would happen...
The idea was simple. Take our heavy recycled-cotton trousers, add a jacket, and make something that looked like a suit without behaving like one. It sold out within weeks.
Then came the Chancery Jacket and Double Pleated Trouser. The jacket is soft and unstructured, our take on a chore jacket. The trouser has a generous pleat and a modern carrot cut. The suit is available on pre-order again, since the first batch sold out... HERE.
It turns out men still want to wear tailoring. They just don't necessarily want to look frumpy or overly formal. That's where smart casual men’s style has landed. Less rigid. More useful. A jacket you can wear with a shirt, a T-shirt or a fine knit. Trousers that work with a jacket one day and a sweatshirt the next.
A suit that takes the thinking out of getting dressed. Functional, modern and easy to wear. The best of all worlds...
What is Smart Casual for Men?
Ask ten men what is smart casual for men and you'll probably get ten different answers.
For us, it's fairly straightforward. Take the useful parts of tailoring. Lose some of the ceremony. That means a good jacket. Proper trousers. A shirt or fine knitwear. Clean shoes.
The Recycled Heavy Duty Twill Navy Jacket
The Chancery Jacket sits neatly in the middle. It's cut like a chore jacket but made with the softness and structure you'd expect from tailoring. Wear it with the matching trousers and you have a suit. Wear it with denim and it becomes something else entirely.

The same goes for the navy twill double pleated trouser (the trouser you will find in the Neem suits). Cut with a wider leg and two forward pleats, it has an easy drape and enough room to move, while keeping a clean, tailored line in a carrot-top shape. The turn-up hem can be let down, giving you the option to wear it your way.
It's made from durable recycled cotton twill, woven in Bergamo, Italy. The cloth has a reassuring weight to it and softens with wear, developing more character over time.
The Smart Casual Suit, the Neem Way
This Autumn, our smart casual tailoring comes in two shades...
Navy Twill Chancery Suit
A deep navy
The original. And, unsurprisingly, the first to sell through pre-order. Now back on pre-order or grab the chancery jacket which is in stock now.
Deep Neem Green Chancery Suit
A dark olive
This shade works particularly well with ecru, chocolate and warmer autumn colours.
It also compliments our new terracotta shade (available in a merino t-shirt or short sleeve shirt), so any red heads... this one is for you.
Wear either with the matching trousers for the full suit.
Why Invest in a Smart Casual Suit?
1. You can actually wear it
A traditional suit has a habit of announcing itself. A smart casual suit doesn't.
Wear the Chancery navy twill suit with a shirt and loafers when you want to look sharper. Swap the shirt for a merino T-shirt and the shoes for trainers and it takes on a completely different character.
2. It should be comfortable
There's little point looking smart if you're spending the day adjusting your clothes. Our jackets are unstructured and our trousers are cut with movement in mind. They're designed to be worn, not stood in. The heavy twill fabric softens with wear too.
3. It works beyond the office
The old smart casual dress code for men was often code for "wear a shirt, but don't bother with a tie". Things have moved on.
The modern wardrobe has to work across more than one setting. Work. Dinner. Travel. The pub. A Friday that somehow becomes Saturday. That's why a relaxed suit makes sense (and means you spend less time thinking about what to wear, the outfit is already made).
4. The fabric matters
Our suits are made from recycled and organic fabrics, with the supply chain documented from fibre to finished garment. You can read more on recycled cotton here.
And when you're finished with them, our Take Back scheme means you can send them back rather than sending them to landfill.
5. They're practical
These aren't dry-clean-only clothes that need to be treated like antiques. Our cotton-based tailoring can be washed at 30°C. Put it in the machine. Hang it up to dry (or line dry). Wear it again.
Modern Dressing, the Neem Way:
Everything we make is built from recycled and organic fabric, produced carbon neutral end to end, in a supply chain we can show you. Explore our Neem suits or visit us at 38 Lamb's Conduit Street. We'll talk you through the fabrics, the fit and how we'd wear them.
Frequently asked questions
What does smart casual mean for men?
Smart casual for men is essentially tailoring without all the ceremony. Think well-cut trousers, a collared shirt or fine knitwear and proper shoes. A jacket is useful but not compulsory. The key is that the pieces should look deliberate without looking overly formal.
Is a suit too formal?
Neem suits embody casual elegance. The jacket is softly constructed with a slightly loose fit, taking its cue from a chore coat rather than traditional tailored blazer. The wider-leg, pleated trousers add ease and movement. Wear them together for a sharper look, or separately with a T-shirt and trainers for a more relaxed smart casual outfit.
Can you wear a T-shirt with a suit?
Yes. A good merino T-shirt works particularly well with relaxed tailoring. It takes some of the formality out of the suit without making the outfit feel too casual.
Can you wear a smart casual suit separately?
That's one of the main advantages. Wear the jacket with denim or other trousers, or pair the trousers with a T-shirt, shirt, overshirt. The chore-style jackets are clean and modern in design so can easily work in a capsule wardrobe. Later on in the colder months they can be styled more as mid-layer with an overcoat on top too.
